Criminally funny comedy – Scot Squad returns for a new series
One silver lining of the current crime epidemic is that I’ve got enough source material to justify spending another summer in sunny Scotland.
Bams beware! Scot Squad is back on the beat with filming underway on the fifth series of BBC Scotland’s spoof comedy series.
The fictional law enforcers return for another arresting mix of comedy and crime in a new six-part series made by the Comedy Unit, filming in locations in around Scotland over the summer.
Whether it’s on patrol, on wheels, on the phone, in the interview room, in the city, in the country, down the station or in cyberspace- the Scot Squad have the skills to fix the ills and the heat to sort the beat. The force is led by a big boss who takes all the flack when he’s under attack. This year Chief Commissioner Miekelson (played by Jack Docherty) is celebrating five years in post without being fired, sent onto gardening leave or being asked to resign.
The new six-part series sees the return of Scot Squad favourites Jack Docherty, Jordan Young, Sally Reid, Julie Wilson Nimmo, Louise McCarthy, Darren Connell, Graeme ‘Grado’ Stevely, Manjot Sumal, amongst others, as Scotland’s band of Bravehearts, doing their duty to protect and serve.
The first day of filming saw Chris Forbes and Ashley Smith reprise their roles as rural police partners PC Charlie McIntosh and PC Jane MacKay as the part-improvised, part-scripted series filmed in the Strathblane area. Guest stars for this new series will be announced soon.
The new series of Scot Squad was commissioned by Steve Carson, BBC Scotland’s Head of Multi-Platform Commissioning who welcomes the return of Scotland’s favourite comic cops: “It’s great to be bringing an arresting series like Scot Squad back on the beat. We’re all looking forward to the return of Chief Commissioner Miekelson and his McJustice league and seeing Scotland’s finest law enforcers at their best. ”
Rab Christie, Executive Producer for The Comedy Unit says: “We are thrilled the McJustice League are back on duty, at the Comedy Unit we’re delighted to be shadowing the bravest law-enforcers on the planet and snatching footage of the bams who make the good guys do their best work.”
A Scot Squad spokesperson adds: “One silver lining of the current crime epidemic is that I’ve got enough source material to justify spending another summer in sunny Scotland.”
The Executive Producers for the new series of Scot Squad are Gavin Smith for BBC Scotland and Rab Christie for The Comedy Unit, while Ian ‘Noddy’ Davidson returns to direct and produce. (BBC)
