Northern Exposure is escaping the cancellation graveyard.
CBS is reviving the cancelled comedy-drama with the original cast and crew.
Per Deadline:
The project has been put in development at CBS with original series star Rob Morrow set to reprise his role and executive produce. It hails from original series co-creators Josh Brand and John Falsey, actor John Corbett, Morrow, Ben Silverman and Universal TV.
Written by Brand, the revival centers on Dr. Joel Fleischman, played by Morrow, who returns to Cicely, Alaska, for the funeral of an old friend and finds a new set of quirky characters and reunites with old ones in this continuation of the classic series.
The original Northern Exposure survived five seasons on CBS from 1990 to 1995, with a total of 110 episodes.
Are you excited about the resurrection of Northern Exposure? Should the show stay cancelled?

how can he return at the end of the old series he went mental and went to live like grizley adams off the land
Nick Kitt says
Well, that’s not how it ended for Joel…He did do that for a while, but wound up back in New York. That was covered in the last season although you didn’t see much of Morrow. Joel’s “last scene” was punctuated by a post card over the Manhattan skyline that read ‘New York State Of Mind”..
Nick Kitt says
Yes, It sounds like a great idea…Good to see Morrow and Corbett involved…That show has been ripe for a sequel series for a long time…Look forward to it…

I’m very excited! I loved that show and hope the revival is just as charming.
Melinda Bailey says
Absolutely they should revive it. One of the best dramadies ever. I so anxious to see where everyone is in their lives and meet the new townies!

Usually sequels are not nearly as good as the originals. With that said, I will watch this one. I really enjoyed the original show although the original ran for about 2 seasons beyond what it should have run. I think they ran out of material.

Can ensemble shows like Northern Exposure survive now is my question? I loved the original show, and I’ll certainly tune in and give a new version of the show a chance to excel, but it does worry me that so many shows from the past are being redone. I don’t mind when they’re shows that were good but never let run their course, or have a new relevance today, but just reviving a show because you don’t have the imagination to think up something new isn’t the best reason. If Rob Morrow were going to revive a show I would have thought Numb3rs would have been a better choice. It’s still relevant and can be configured as an ensemble or focussing on one or two characters.
J Leathers says
I’m looking forward to it. When will it be back? I enjoy watching Rob Morrow and John Corbett. It probably won’t make it. It’s funny how old shows are being rebooted. They’re in such a hurry to cancel them. They should think before cancelling them so fast.

I love, love, love Northern Exposure! I hope the revival will be as good as the original was. Will miss Ruth Anne, tho, as I know that actress has passed away. I still watch my DVD’s of the series every so often. It continues to impress me. It had such a real yet fantasy feel to it at times.
Theresa Plowy says
will be glad to check out the new show
I think about the old show now and then when something jogs a memory
loved actors and their characters and the setting.
Good Luck to everyone involved hope it works

Now will they please put this series on Netflix or Hulu? I’ve been wanting to rewatch for a while now.
