It’s official. FOX has revived Last Man Standing for Season 7, insiders inform RenewCancelTV. The network already has a show page up for them sitcom, which will return for the 2018-19 season.
Gary Newman and Dana Walden, Chairmen and CEOs, Fox Television Group, said of Last Man Standing‘s second life:
“Last Man Standing ended too soon and the outcry from the fans has been deafening. We’ve wanted to put the show back together since its final taping a year ago, and Tim never gave up hope either. Thanks to its millions of devoted viewers and the irrepressible Tim Allen, we haven’t seen the last of ‘Last Man Standing.’”
Added returning star Tim Allen:
“Excited? Team ‘LMS’ was in the sixth inning, ahead by four runs, stands were packed and then for no reason, they call off the game. It leaves you sitting in the dugout, holding a bat and puzzled. Now we get the news from Fox that it’s time to get back out on that diamond – hell yes, I’m excited! When I heard the offer to create more episodes of ‘Last Man Standing,’ I did a fist pump so hard I threw my back out. It’s the fans! I could not be more grateful for the fans who wrote petitions and kept up the passion and incredible support for the show. And a fist pump, ouch, for Dana Walden and Gary Newman at Fox for not only listening to the fans, but for making the bold move to bring ‘Last Man Standing’ back. I’m sure audiences will be curious to see what we look like after all these years. Oh, has it only been one year? Well, just goes to show you – a lot can happen in a year.”
Are you looking forward to Last Man Standing on FOX? Disappointed the show has been salvaged?
UPDATED with FOX press announcement:
“LAST MAN STANDING,” STARRING TIM ALLEN, TO AIR ON FOX DURING THE 2018-2019 SEASON
Multi-cam comedy LAST MAN STANDING, starring Tim Allen, will air on FOX during the 2018-2019 season.
A fan-favorite for six seasons, LAST MAN STANDING stars Allen as MIKE BAXTER, a married father of three girls, who tries to maintain his manliness in a world increasingly dominated by women. Produced by 20th Century Fox Television, the series also stars Nancy Travis, Jonathan Adams, Amanda Fuller, Christoph Sanders and Jordan Masterson.
“Excited?,” said Allen. “Team LMS was in the sixth inning, ahead by four runs, stands were packed and then for no reason, they call off the game. It leaves you sitting in the dugout, holding a bat and puzzled. Now we get the news from FOX that it’s time to get back out on that diamond – hell yes, I’m excited! “Last Man Standing” averaged 8.3 million viewers in Live + 7 ratings for the 2016-2017 season on ABC. It was the network’s second most-watched comedy, after “Modern Family.” Among the key Adults 18-49 demographic, the series averaged a 1.7/7. The series ranked as the No. 1 new program across all syndication when it debuted off-net during the 2016-2017 season.
LAST MAN STANDING is produced by 20th Century Fox Television. The series was created by Jack Burditt.
With Season 7 revived, stay tuned as we now monitor the renew/cancel status of Last Man Standing Season 8…
PREVIOUSLY: A year after ABC cancelled the Tim Allen comedy, FOX is reviving Last Man Standing for Season 7, with Allen already signed on, per THR:
Allen, sources say, has signed on and has been — with producers 20th Century Fox Television — the driving force of the revival. Discussions are also underway with producers and stars from the former ABC comedy to return. Insiders stress the talks are on the early side and could break down ahead of the network’s May 14 upfront presentation to Madison Avenue ad buyers. Fox and 20th Century Fox Television declined comment.
Fox’s move to revive Last Man Standing comes after Allen and the network’s studio counterpart 20th TV attempted to find the series a new home after ABC’s shocking cancellation last year.
Per Deadline:
I hear star and executive producer Allen has closed a deal to return. 20th TV is currently in conversations with other cast members as well as members of the series’ creative team, including producers, to come back. Two of the key Last Man Standing series regulars, Nancy Travis and Hector Elizondo, are tied to other multi-camera comedies at the moment. Travis stars in the upcoming Netflix comedy series The Kominsky Method while Elizondo is a lead of the pilot Guess Who Died, which is in contention at NBC.
Insiders caution there are still many deals to close and the show’s return is by no means a sure thing but there are promising signs that a seventh season is possible. Fox and 20th TV declined comment.

I would bring it back if only to give it a true series finale it did not get in May 2017, when ABC cancelled it because they did not own it, and felt it was too expensive for a Friday night show to renew.
The “season finale”, (which turned out to be a “series finale”), was just another episode where nothing much of importance happened. Last Man Standing was on the air for 6 years and deserved a true series finale worthy of the very good funny series. The three daughters are all grown up and on the verge of moving out of the nest egg, however, let the series have a finale, like so many other series get.
The program is in syndication, and there are people who do watch it, even after the last episode aired.
So please bring it back and give it a series finale that it deserves.
It’s worth noting that after Last Man Standing was cancelled, (and Shark Tank moved from Friday to Sunday), that CBS has won Friday night in the 18-49 demo and total viewers with MacGyver, Hawaii Five-0, and Blue Bloods for 24 weeks since Labor Day 2017. ABC used to be important on Friday night, now it’s the dumping ground for their programs that can’t compete on other nights.
B says
You re nutts, they canceled it because of tim allens message politically, religiously and the kove of america. The show won its time slot consistently and there was no true basis to cancel the show
TV Viewer says
Last Man Standing was on the air for 6 years when ABC cancelled it. It was cancelled because, it was not owned and it was too expensive for ABC to renew it. TV shows get cancelled all the time, if they cost more money to make than they bring in. CBS has also cancelled TV shows they did not own that they felt were too expensive to renew.
Last Man Standing was on the air for 6 years and ABC did not just realize that Tim Allen was a conservative when they cancelled. Considering that Donald Trump won the Presidency, that would have been a factor to renew it.
You are ignorant of the economic facts that let to the shows cancellation. Less and less people are watching basic broadcast TV and this means less advertising dollars for the networks. Ownership becomes very important, and unless an program that is not owned brings in excellent ratings, such as Modern Family, or The Big Bang Theory, being unowned can lead to cancellation.
Television is a business and for ABC; Last Man Standing, an unowned program cost more money to renew than they would make from advertising dollars.
It’s not worth it to the network to win the time slot, if the program costs more money to air than they make back in advertising bucks. Especially on Friday night, the second worst night of TV viewing. Saturday is the worst night for watching TV.
You know nothing about the economics of television.
Randy says
Explain how the show Lucifer survives then ? I’ve worked on both and the Lucifer production is several times the cost of LMS and has almost exactly half the viewing audience , barely over 3 million and LMS averaged over 6 million ?
TV Viewer says
Lucifer has been on the air for three years, it airs on Monday, and stars Tom Ellis.
Last Man Standing was on the air for 6 years, (the older a show is, the more it costs to renew it), aired on Friday at 8 PM, (the second worst night of the week for TV viewing), and stars Tim Allen, an expensive, popular actor who requires top dollar.
ABC totally changed Friday in September 2017, when they cancelled Last Man Standing and moved Shark Tank to Sunday. They air cheap shows they own on that night, because, of the lower advertising dollars they bring in.
Obviously, they thought Once Upon a Time and the Inhumans would do better in the ratings than they did.
Last Man Standing was on the air for 6 years. It was cancelled, because it was unowned, expensive, and aired on Friday night at 8 PM. ABC does not throw money away. They have to answer to the stockholders, as do CBS, Fox, and NBC.
If Last Man Standing had made a profit for ABC they would have renewed it.
Rober says
You just showed you know nothing
Lisanne says
You are so correct!! They can deny and have other reasons they’ve pointed to, for the cancellation but I too cry foul!! My entire family and all our friends adored this show and were really ticked off and sad that it was cut. The same holds true for The Middle. They are ending it too soon. Brick should have been allowed to graduate and head to college before ending it. Year 10 should be!
karen says
I agree with you about LMS, but with the Middle the cast decided to end the show. But I do agree the Middle could run alot longer..
Bert says
Amen, B. That’s the real scoop.
Michael P. says
Yes, I would absolutely watch it. I have only liked a handful of comedies in my life and this is one of them. Last Man Standing was smart, funny and family-oriented and I miss it more than most other cancelled shows I enjoyed.
Slasher says
YEA! I did miss that show. Tim will eat a steak, drink a beer, have cool cars, and tell the Democrats what lil Sissy’s they are! I missed him…lol
ProudGreenYin says
I will be delighted if this gets the go-ahead.
Xander says
What happened to thE WGN reboot?
Coby Preimesberger says
was just re-runs although it looked like if fox had passed since wgn america has been doing orignal programming they would’ve picked it up,but the hollywooy reporter has the networks renewed or cancelled and they will be doing it before the upfronts next week, the first network up is fox, but they’ve all but confirmed lms season 7 happening and it looks like fall 2018 is when it premires
Cynthia says
I would absolutely watch Last Man Standing when it is revived !!!! I was very upset when it was cancelled…I signed petitions, joined facebook pages in support of bringing LMS back, and followed it closely to see what was going on….when I first heard yesterday that it will most likely will be back on Fox I was ECSTATIC !!!!! I had a rough day yesterday, but as soon as I heard this news, my mood changed immediately !!! I will support Tim Allen and the whole cast and crew and watch LMS for as long as it is on TV !!!!!! I’m not only hoping for a 7th season, I am rooting and hoping for MANY MORE seasons !!!!! Way to go Tim Allen !!! Lets get this show back on TV ASAP !!!!!!!!!! #BringBackLastManStanding !!!!!!!
Kay B. says
I would definitely watch as long as the basic platform is the same. Let Tim Allen, be Tim Allen: a true conservative! I believe that advertisers or people at ABC decided they didn’t like the idea of the “fair” debate between conservative ideas and liberal/progressive ideas being aired. They want to limit what people are able to hear so they can continue the indoctrination of only one way to think.
Bring LMS back as long they can can continue the honest debate!
Coby Preimesberger says
yes it’s offical, and you really can’t trust channing dungey because if it were about costs they would’ve cancelled all 21st century fox shows, as while they gave dr.ken, lms the axe, at the same time they renewed modern family for 2 more years and oh look who produces it, 21st century, and that show has almost been cancelled twice because of salary demands from minor cast members
Carol says
Yes, I would watch it. It was truly one of the best comedy shows aired on the television network. I would truly like to see the whole original cast return to it though. Please, please Fox pick it up.
Coby Preimesberger says
well per the hollywood reporter they have there renewed or cancelled for fox and in the main story it confirms lms season 7 happening and it looks like fall 2018, as again nancy they will have no problem as her show already shot season 1, and hector’s nbc show right now the pilot hasn’t even shot yet and they haven’t made an annoucment if it’s going to series, but i think nbc might have a clause where he can shoot both shows
Bert says
LMS was cancelled for Political reasons. All the other excuses are BS. The viewership numbers were higher on LMS than many other ABC sitcoms that air on better days. The were in the same range as Blackish, Fresh off the Boat, Goldbergs, etc. Yes they vary some week to week but it performed extremely well considering it was on Fridays.
BTW Lucifer is a GREAT show – Cast & writing are top notch. It may be difficult for new viewers to get into it as it is pretty unconventional. Also some religious groups attacked it early on & I believe that many or most of them never saw the show. I am Christian, but still enjoy the show as it shows that no one is beyond redemption. In the show, Lucifer exemplifies the struggles that most humans experience in battling forces of right & wrong in our daily lives.
jack de angelis says
the show was my favorite my wife’s favorite ,i MIGHT think of the cost but i cant see the show a loser today they canceled 3 shows mick, last man on earth and bklyn99
fox has the cash now to get this done ,,roseanne show is so boring and so if we need to give conservatives entertainment lets give a good show BRING BACK TIM ALLEN BEST SITCOM FOR FAMILY ON TV.
Jackie Hettinger says
This This is wonderful news! I really missed it last fall. I watch reruns daily of LMS. One happy viewer.
Bill Pitt says
Congratulations to Fox. My wife and I loved “Last Man Standing” and if Fox will give Tim Allen free rein it will continue to be the great show that it was. TV needs some conservative humor!
Donna says
Last Man Standing was one of our favorite shows, we looked forward to the night it came on. Tim Allen is a one of a kind, the whole crew was great. Some these shows that are on now are so terrible, we watch Fox every night. Please bring this show back!!!! Take some those stupid, dumb shows off!! I recommended this show to the entire family and friends. They started watching it !! It’s such a fun, family night entertainment. It needs to be on at least an hour a week, I know two days a week would be asking too much. Night time entertainment family shows are far an in between. Love Love this show!
Daniel K. says
Interesting that in the “also stars” part of Fox’s announcement that 2 of the 3 Baxter children are missing – Molly Ephraim (Mandy) and Kaitlyn Dever (Eve). Eve’s character is easy to get along without because as I remember the show when it ended she was headed to West Point. I don’t know how they will keep around Mandy’s husband without his wife (unless they get a replacement).
Satan says
Cancel this shit. Bring back Lucifer.
