Crime-solving cleric returns to BBC One Daytime

In this series we see anarchists, ramblers and Morris Dancers all throwing up new adventures for Father Brown but as ever, he’s more concerned with saving souls that in just bringing the guilty to justice

The hugely successful BBC crime drama Father Brown, based on the stories by GK Chesterton, has been commissioned for a seventh series.

The BBC One daytime drama from BBC Studios stars Mark Williams as the eponymous crime-solving Roman Catholic priest.

Set in the stunning Cotswolds and filmed across several locations in the Midlands, including Blockley and Worcester, the kindly cleric is joined by a host of familiar faces.

Mrs McCarthy (Sorcha Cusack), Inspector Mallory (Jack Deam) and Bunty Windermere (Emer Kenny) are all on hand, to help Father Brown solve a whole new set of mysteries.

When Lady Felicia (Nancy Carroll) returns from Northern Rhodesia in need of help, Father Brown is forced to conclude that none other than Hercule Flambeau (John Light) may be her greatest ally. Meanwhile a familiar face returns to Kembleford when a notorious police killer is spotted near the village, putting Sergeant Goodfellow (John Burton) in grave danger.

Dan McGolpin Controller of BBC Programming and Daytime says: “Father Brown will be back in early 2019 solving crimes in the Cotswolds and viewers can prepare for an enticing new series on BBC Daytime and the BBC iPlayer.”

Will Trotter, Head of Daytime Drama, BBC Studios says: “In this series we see anarchists, ramblers and Morris Dancers all throwing up new adventures for Father Brown but as ever, he’s more concerned with saving souls that in just bringing the guilty to justice.

“This summer was spent filming in our favourite locations across the Midlands from Evesham to Warwick and showcasing the beautiful period Cotswolds villages.

“Father Brown was the most watched drama on BBC One Daytime, averaging over 2.3 million viewers and is a world-wide success with a global audience in over 150 countries. Series seven is set to be the best one yet.”

Father Brown is produced and distributed internationally by BBC Studios.
