Doctor Who wont join the list of TV shows cancelled for quite some time.
The BBC has renewed the time-travelling series for Season 12, with Jodie Whittaker returning as Time Lord, TVShowsCancelled.com can exclusively reveal.
Doctor Who Season 12 is slated to premiere early 2020 in both the UK and US, insiders tell us.
The broadcaster has also announced a 2019 New Year’s Day special:
With 2018 marking a brand new era for Doctor Who it is only right that 2019 kicks off in spectacular style
So to mark the occasion, in this year’s festive episode the TARDIS will travel through the time vortex from its traditional timeslot on Christmas Day and will land in style on New Year’s Day.
Charlotte Moore, Director of Content, says: “We’re delighted the Doctor and her companions will be welcoming BBC One audiences into 2019 with this exciting new episode. The Doctor’s fans are in for a special treat on the first day of the new year.”
Showrunner Chris Chibnall says: “We’re thrilled to be starting the New Year with a bang on BBC One, as Jodie Whittaker’s Doctor and friends face a terrifying alien threat in an action-packed, hour-long special adventure for all the family.”
As the New Year begins, a terrifying evil is stirring from across the centuries of Earth’s history. As the Doctor, Ryan, Graham and Yaz return home, will they be able to overcome the threat to planet Earth?
Written by Chris Chibnall and directed by Wayne Yip. The Doctor is played by Jodie Whittaker, Ryan by Tosin Cole, Graham by Bradley Walsh and Yaz by Mandip Gill. (BBC)
Doctor Who Season 13 next? Stay tuned…

everything else has changed about Dr Who – why not make it a clean sweep!? Why not give the TARDIS a new shape and colour to go with it? (not serious here folks-the blue police box is iconic).
May I just add, it’s a bold move to change so very much about the series all at once. Lady Doctor – bloody brilliant idea, and about time too. Changing the time of year the season starts – annoying. Changing viewing day and time – okay, can live with that. Changing the nature of episodes to one off’s – if you must. Sodding about with Christmas Special to New Year Special? – what’s the point? I am one of the dinosaurs who have watched the show faithfully since it’s inception, so I guess I’m getting a bit set in my ways, but even subtle changes get noticed, and too many at once get percentages of the audience decidedly irritated. I’m on the cusp of being one of those.
On a more positive note, I love each successive Doctor and this one is no exception, and I really like her new companions. I still miss Amy and Rory, and Bill they were brilliant; and I still miss all the previous doctors in the rejigged post 2005 series. You’re all wonderful. Now, if this new guy will stop writing episodes and just concentrate on direction and production, we can all get on with it. The ones he writes are a bit too dour.

I have tried to get behind this Doctor and I just can’t. I have no objection to the Doctor being a woman. I agree that it was time to try it. It certainly with the Master. I just don’t care about this Doctor or the companions (or whatever they’re called now). The stories have been awful. The new sonic screwdriver looks like a personal entertainment device. I’m just going to wait for the regeneration into the next Doctor. Sorry.

Making people wait until 2020 for the next season is a bad idea. We are just getting to know this doctor. Too long of a break will have people not tuning in to discover this doctor. The scripts need tweaking. She seems to be having lots of trouble with remembering things. I think the new writers need to go back and reread old scripts.

I guess I’m too old or something, but after more than 50 years, the Doctor cannot be a female. I understand the stories also suck this year, and why does she need three “friends” if women are equal to men? Most of the guys had one, some had two, but three????? I’m afraid the Doctor has lost me and my family until the writers return to the original concept.

I agree. After watching Dr Who since the 70’s, I no longer am interested in it productions or episodes. Maybe the next Doctor will regain the lost viewers

I’m very sorry Chibnall wrote the New Year special – his stories are awful and aren’t even vaguely Dr Who like. In fact, the writing this season has been nothing short of horrible. I’d keep the actor who places Graham and toss the rest out poste haste. Roll on the next regeneration. I tried really hard to like this season, but after that last story in ‘Norway’ with the pocket universe, I’m out. I’ve watch every episode of the last 10 seasons and loved them and loved each of the preceding Doctors, but I don’t really know what I’m watching now….it sure isn’t Dr Who. For one thing, this new doctor seems to just look dazed and confused every episode, I get no sense that she’s a super intelligent long-lived Time Lord. She just seems like some Midlands lass who feel across an alien travelling device and is floundering from one adventure to the next. How about getting some Sci-Fi writers in instead of political drama writers, and some people who have a passion for Dr Who. Right now my 7 year old writes better stories.

I have been watching Doctor Who since the 1960s. No Doctor in 2019? At all? I may as well just stay in bed.

I love this Doctor: but why only 10 episodes, and now I hear that we have to wait until 2020 for a new episode? What the heck is that all about?
