Big Brother UK will soon join the list of TV shows cancelled.
Sources inform the Daily Star that the show will be axed after the current 19th series:
“After months of discussions it has been decided to axe Celebrity Big Brother. Ratings have dropped for the past few series so it wasn’t worth the hefty price tag.”
Channel 5 boss Ben Frow confirmed the cancellation, but says it wont be permanent:
“It is clear. I have planned for a year without Big Brother. Never say never, and you keep all options open, but the contract runs out at Christmas.”
Reflecting on the reality show’s position at the broadcaster, he said:
“We are doing a lot of rethinking. I am over quite a lot of things. I don’t want more of what I have got. We need things we haven’t thought of.
Creative renewal is driven by a tough year. We are not about completely reinventing the wheel there are no new ideas there are just new ways of doing old ideas. You have to free up the schedule and open it up to new ideas.”
He added:
“I plan for a year without Big Brother. I look forward to the day when I have a show you are excited about that is not Big Brother.”
Insiders tell TVShowsCancelled.com that there are no current plans to resurrect Big Brother UK on Channel 5 after 2019.
RIP.
