‘Baroness Von Sketch Show’ Lands Early Season 5 Renewal At IFC

Ahead of the fourth season premiere, IFC has handed an early fifth season renewal to all-female sketch series Baroness von Sketch Show. According to Deadline and TVlineSeason 4 of the award-winning series, commissioned by CBC and picked up by IFC for the U.S., is set to premiere on October 30. The renewal was announced as part of AMC Networks’ presentation Thursday.

Performed and written by Meredith MacNeill and Second City alumni Carolyn Taylor, Aurora Browne, and Jennifer Whalen, the series satirizes daily modern life offering a fresh, witty take on relatable moments such as crying at work, waiting in airport security lines, dealing with gossip-obsessed co-workers, co-parenting and more.

MacNeill, Browne, Whalen were on hand to about their approach to curating the show and how nothing is off-limits.

Season four of Baroness von Sketch Show premieres on IFC on October 30th at 12 a.m. ET/PT.

“As a woman in my 40s, being able to work with these other women create the content that we’re creating, I don’t take that for granted at all, especially in this climate,” said MacNeill. “What we’re allowed to do is incredible.”

With news of the early renewal, and with other upcoming comedy sketch shows like Robin Thede’s A Black Lady Sketch Show and IFC’s Sherman’s Showcase, the ladies were asked about the attractiveness of the artform.

“We do need to laugh,” Browne simply put.  “For us, it’s therapeutic to do a sketch about something that is hard and finding a comedic angle is always a challenge but it’s therapeutic.”

Added Whalen, “People are embracing sketch because it’s such a great took to talk about a variety of things and a variety of experiences in really a fun way.”

IFC acquired the female-led Canadian sketch comedy series in 2017. The show has been honored with multiple Canadian Screen Awards including best variety or sketch comedy, best writing in a variety or sketch comedy and best picture editing in a variety or sketch comedy.

Baroness von Sketch Show is executive produced by Jamie Brown, Taylor, MacNeill, Browne and Whalen, who also serves as showrunner.
