An Absentia season 3 renewal is inching closer to closer to sure-thing territory now. With production getting set for later this year in Bulgaria, it’s almost impossible to believe that the Sony Pictures TV series is about to be extinct. The latest performance analysis justifies its future even further.
While Amazon doesn’t come out and confirm specific numbers for any of their shows, they do release something that is still very much appreciated — a list of some of their top-performing shows for a given period of time. They have released these numbers for Prime users in the month of June (the month Absentia premiered), and we’re pleased to note that season 2 is #5 on the list! It performed better than Amazon series like Sneaky Pete, Bosch, and Hanna, and was toppled only by the blockbuster Good Omens, a Jonas Brothers documentary, SpongeBob SquarePants (quite possibly one of the biggest cartoons of all time), and the second season of Fleabag. Those are all popular mainstream shows/movies and Absentia has a lot to be proud of because of it.
What’s even more impressive about the show’s overall performance is mostly that Absentia is able to perform the way that it is despite not getting a whole flurry of promotion. It really doesn’t get all that much in the way of attention and yet still, it has a dedicated audience who finds it and watches it. Because of the show’s pacing and speed, it’s also the sort of show that can be watched over a single weekend with ease — let alone a single day for those who have enough time to set aside.
When could an Absentia season 3 premiere?
Since it’s looking as though filming will begin in the coming months, we could see a shorter turnaround this time than between season 1 and 2. It’s clear that the creative team was able to anticipate a season 3 renewal this time around, which makes transitioning over to it all the easier. We would imagine that a premiere in the summer of 2020 on Amazon is more than feasible; it could arrive earlier in other parts of the world, but that’s a discussion for a different time.
