Time to party like an arsonist in 1997. Vulture reports that Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington have shared the first image from their upcoming Hulu miniseries Little Fires Everywhere (not to be confused with that other three-word mom drama, Big Little Lies). Their characters appear to be far removed from any and all fiery activity. Excellent! So what do we have here instead? Witherspoon’s Elena gets to go full-on Stepford wife while Washington’s Mia breaks out her finest Kim Possible cosplay while, uh, they wait for those little fires to start happening? Based on the terrific novel by Celeste Ng, this Little Fires Everywhere adaptation promises to tell the story of two families in an Ohio suburb who are “brought together after their children become friends,” all while exploring “the weight of secrets, the nature of art and identity, the ferocious pull of motherhood.” There’s no release date just yet.
