Reality distortion TV.
I am a 30+ year television producer and in today’s world there are SO many “reality” shows on every channel that I want to run for the hills. I have personally worked on over 100 of these new generation shows and have seen the best and worst of it, The ones that disturb me however are the ones where “real” problems are being mixed with almost reality. These new “reality” shows take people who have drug, health or deep personal matters that they are faced with, and proceed to have a staff of producers and owners who often badly combine that with the need to put as much as possible into 30 minutes for the benefit of their advertisers, and not the viewers. I am all for entertainment and have spent my entire life in it, but I am struggling with the lines that get crossed daily where reality stars turn into heros for the regular people in the world, when they are in fact the most prepared, edited and packaged version of the world that is put out there for us to see.
