ABC‘s planned Bewitched reboot from Black-ish creator Kenya Barris has been cancelled – at least until next season.
Per THR:
The Black-ish creator, who successfully negotiated an early exit from his longtime home at ABC Studios, has seen his interracial take on Bewitched rolled for next season at the Disney-owned broadcaster.
The reboot of the 1964-1972 ABC comedy was the last project Barris sold to ABC. The single-camera comedy about a blended family — a hardworking black single mother who happens to be a witch and winds up marrying a white mortal slacker — had a sizable pilot-production commitment. The project will now be rolled into ABC’s development for consideration for the 2020-21 broadcast season. Sources say the network is high on the project and wants to take its time and get the script right.
Will Betwitched reboot next season? Stay tuned…
RIP.

I grew up watching the original and it was a really good show. I even enjoy the reruns to this day. I do not see how they could do this and make it work. I for one hope a remake never happens, unless they stick to the original premise, and since the actors that made the original are gone, and would be too old anyway, they just need to leave it alone.

Please give this show another chance.

GOOD. Leave the classic Bewitched TV series alone! At least the Bewitched movie showed respect to Elizabeth Montgomery iconic role as Samantha and wasn’t a direct remake.
How about something original for a change featuring a witch? Surely someone can think up something original rather than a very, very bad idea that a lot of fans of the classic Bewitched TV series would hate.
I think ABC new this would be a dismal flop and decided to cancel the Bewitched reboot.
