Timeless‘ fate may have been extended with a 2-hour movie, but could there have been a full third season instead?
Speaking to THR, creator Shawn Ryan insisted that while a full third season would have been appealing he was happy with the movie-style format of the Timeless series finale:
There were some moments or storylines where I thought, “Wow, if we had like four episodes to play this out would have been great,” but pretty early on we adopted the mind-set of making more of a movie here than making 10 episodes of television. Our models here have to be more Back to the Future than Quantum Leap in that sense. I think the total running time is like an hour and 25 minutes. We have this time, and what’s the best usage of this time?
Also, we don’t want this to only be something that can be viewed by hard-core fans of the show. If someone never even heard of Timeless before and they’re flipping around and they come across NBC at 8 p.m., how can we grab their attention and go, “OK, I don’t know everything that’s going on here,” but it’s kind of like going and watching a Marvel movie and maybe you haven’t seen the Marvel movies that have come before it, but you have enough of a sense in what’s going on that you can enjoy that. We just wanted to create something that the people would be able to watch and enjoy.
Are you happy with how Timeless ended? Did you want a Season 3 or was the 2-hour movie enough to bring satisfying closure to the series?
That was a very good ending for Timeless since they finally completed their mission. But I also would have liked it to have been on another season or two. It’s a shame that it is gone now since it was the best show on NBC since Grimm.

I think there could have been another season, They still left the door open a little to continue with more, in the 2 part finale!

I want a Season 3 of Timeless. The series finale movie was great, but I really want them to go back and do a Season 3, no matter what channel or Netflix picks it up. The movie just made me want more of Timeless.
Love to see a season 3 and more. There is no other show on TV like this and think the writers are doing very well.

I would love to have it extended. It was a well written show.
This was one of my very few “Never Miss” programs. The writer of this article has to remember that due to the amount of program selections – speaking of all the 100’s of choices now available for watching at the same time – Timeless has millions of people faithful to this program. Historical knowledge is at a premium in today’s educational system and Timeless brought history to life with each episode making it a 1 of a kind show. It seems like the write of this article is certainly not overly interested in maintaining an educational format for whatever reasoning he comes up with. He uses the terms “We thought” – “We just” – in his reasoning(excuse to me). “WE” the faithful followers of TIMELESS respectfully(or otherwise) disagree. 2 seasons are just not enough!

Timeless: Great Concept, cast, & writing…I want more!
I think the writers did an excellent job of pulling it all together for the series finale, but my husband & I would’ve loved to have had more seasons of Timeless.
Please please let us have a season 3. So many more stories to tell and such a great series
So upset this was cancelled but at least they didn’t leave us hanging. It had good closure. But I will really miss this show!!
