You can not accuse the people at Motor Trend of having any brains. Maybe they will put up a so called car show like Barret Jackson, that I do not watch. Selling cars to richest buyer is a not entertainment. Maybe Motor Trend doesn’t want to be in the entertainment business like the good people at Velocity did.

I agree with everyone else who has posted here. I’m shocked and disappointed that FantomWorks has been cancelled. One look at this site and anybody could see how popular the show was. Hopefully Motor Trend will reconsider. If not, as others have already said, maybe another network will pick the show up.

I agree with every post I have read. MotorTrend, f/k/a Velocity, has started its own trend of canceling good shows and replacing them with dumb ass shows about dumb ass people with too much money having their dumb ass trucks jacked up into the stratosphere with big ass tires. Is Garage Squad next?

Since I am New to restorations, this show has helped me with mynknowledge and understanding asmuch or more than any other. I too feel Motor Trend is going down since taling over and they are brecoming too Political and lossing the reason way we like shows like Fantom Works All of their New shows stink and they will ruin the Whole purpose for this channel. Real folks can actually go there and able to afford to do it. Go to kindigit and see if you could get your car done. Love the guys at Kindigitbut could never afford what they do.

He felt that the constant filming had become to disruptive and costly to his business… Still sad to see the show end though.

I owned & operated a collision repair shop for almost 30 years and restored a car or two a year for customers who were known for show winning cars. I retired in 2011 and this show is one of the only ones that catches my attention due to doing the restorations properly. I relate oh so well to the big issues the techs don’t want to have to tell Dan lol. Motor Trend apparently feels Bad Chad & his cartoon cars is the beat entertainment for people who know about what they are watching. See ya Motor Trend….

I just checked out the Fantom Works web site, and it turns out it was Dan Short’s decision to end the show. From what he said in the letter he posted, it was a major pain in the ass having those camera and sound guys all over the place, and it was having an adverse effect on his crew and his business, and it had been going on for years. After reading his letter and the details of what was involved in making that show, as much as I enjoyed it I can understand why Mr. Short was ready to call it quits. All good things come to an end and all that…

I really enjoy a number of shows on Velocity. And Fantomworks was one of the ones I enjoyed the most.
It’s one of the few that sticks to the nuts and bolts of actually working on cars, and the craftsmanship involved in turning out a great product for the customer. So many of the car restoration shows revolve around silly behaviors and out activities of the people involved.
Fantomworks covered as much of the restoration process as they could in 60 minutes. With the possible exception of Wheeler Dealers most of the other shows involve watching the shop owners and mechanics going through silly antics eg. running over cars with tanks or “Big Foot” style pickups, going to go-cart tracks,
and other antics not related to working on cars. Dan Short maintains strict control of the restoration/repair process. And refuses to turn out a quality project.
The loss of this shows means I’ll be watching the Velocity channel (or what they choose to call it) just that much less. Is there a more boring show to watch then “Motor Week”. With Motor Trend coming it’ll be shows like that, and some of the other gimmicky shows in the future.
Velocity made it’s bones with shows like Fantomworks. And now they’re abandoning Fantomworks and us.

When Motorweek took over Velocity Channel I knew they would ruin the the content of it by pushing the the Motortrend brand…which is why no one reads their magazine or should I say auto parts and auto ad magazine…Famtomworks was the first show I watched on Velocity which made me tune into other shows. I’m not a gearhead but Dan and his crew made it interesting to a novice like myself enough to buy a 62 olds and try and get involved….I will miss the show and probably watch less of the “so-called” improved network

Oh well. I guess I can downgrade to a new platform that doesn’t have Velocity. Of all the cars shows, Fantomworks and Wheeler Dealers were my favorites. I can get Wheelers on the internet, so bye bye. I even figured out the labor rate so when they pulled out the bill with the parts cost, I could figure out how much a quality A1 restoration really cost. There is one show I really like but can’t remember the name. They have a shop in Canada and the owner loves to wear horrible 1960’s clothing. Somebody will know what show i mean. Legendary Motorcars! I just remembered. Peter is the bad dresser. 🙂 Come to think of it, that hasn’t been on for a while.

Canceling Fantomworks was a huge mistake. It was one of the reasons I watched Velocity. I hope another network will pick up Fantomworks. They show the actual nuts and bolts of a restoration without the silly antics and you can tell the employees there are passionate about their work, as you’d want them to be if they were working on your vehicle. I can probably downsize to a different tier of cable service now that Velocity will be without it’s best show.

As a car enthusiast and back yard car restorer for over 40 years, this program, along with Wheeler Dealers are the pinnacle of car fix up/restoration shows on TV. I’ve even considered traveling to Norfolk to have Dan and his team work on one of my restoration projects. All of the other car shows on MT have similar formats, customize and accessorize. While there’s nothing wrong with that, some of us are more purists when it comes to cars and their originality. I will truly miss Fantomworks, Dan and his talented team. A agree completely about Fantomworks and Iron Resurrection. Usually this isn’t just a cancellation based upon any logical process like viewership but a cancellation based upon the shows subject not wanting to adhere to new guidelines or terms being forced down their throats by new management. Seen it all too often and we the loyal fans have to live with the results. Hopefully a Motor Trend channel alternative will rise from the ashes.

I watch this show religiously and have since day one. It’s nice seeing the work that’s done. I never was a Motor Trend mag fan, I just felt it, and holds true with this channel buyout. I guess the new program director has an entertainment background and feels people must laugh to be entertained, not by hold one’s attention with knowledge and substance. Fantomworks was the first show I watched on Velocity which made me tune into other shows and I knew when motorweek took over Velocity that they would ruin a good thing. I am not a gearhead but Dan and his crew made it interesting enough to a novice like myself to make me purchase a 62 Oldsmobile to tinker with and get my hands dirty. Hopefully bring it back to a respectable condition. Now I learned from reading other posts that Iron Resurrection and Speed is new black are gone too!…Motorweek just cut the best 3 shows on its network…when it was Velocity the only show I hated was “this is motorweek” with the guy driving a car that was way out of most people’s means. If we have to pick between Fantomworks and MotorTrend, we are not picking MotorTrend. I have always enjoyed Fantomworks and I love Iron Restoration, Speed Is The New Black and Garage Squad. Graveyard Cars is interesting and I do enjoy Car Fix and All Girls Garage. The girls are very talented and the projects they take on are fun to watch. Both Car Fix and AGG tend to get a little too close to infomercials at times, but still very enjoyable. I was not sure I would like the auction shows but the variety of vehicles coming across the auction block always catches my attention. Jury is still out on Live, Love, Wrench.
I still miss Edd China but I do like Mike and Ant. I really understand why Edd left. Maybe Edd will get a new show and end up on a better network with Fantomworks and Iron Restoration. Very sad to see the best shows canceled by clueless network executives.

Who wants to watch normal mechanics without full sleeve tatoos, multiple piercings, that don’t have long dirty beards actually working on cars? This is a real shame. Again the numbers crunchers have killed the best car show on television. This is why I do not subscribe to MotorTrend magazine anymore. When the bean counters outweigh the real car people this is what happens to the programming on television and the content of car magazines. One day I would like to see the producers and editors ask the people that actually watch the shows, buy the magazines and buy their products advertised what they think. Maybe and only maybe then would they realize what a terrible mistake it is to change what has been working so well.

One look at their magazine should have warned us of what we could expect. Fantomworks is a good show that deserves to be on the air. Chasing Classic Cars is another program of quality that will probably be cancelled because of its quality. I will avoid the MT channel like the plague.

Fantomworks was the best car restoration show because Mr. Short and his craftsmen told you what was wrong and how they would repair it. At the end we were witness to how much the cost would be. I thought this was the best show because of the education and there was no annoying member. When Graveyard Carz comes on I can’t change the channel fast enough, the owner of that garage makes me angry. Dan and the guys will be missed.

I had a gut feeling when motor trend took over they would completely ruin the excellent programming the Velocity channel took years to put into place. So now motor trend can have their foreign cars and made for TV drama self proclaimed car experts that throw wrenches and have temper tantrums, and are willing to sell what good character and self respect they may have had for a fast buck. Sad to say these same people are contributing to the downfall of this Country by setting the worst of examples for the future generation of true classic car lovers. If MT wanted to keep Dan in the lineup they could have made him an offer they couldn’t refuse. Clearly, they didn’t and Dan’s pain of filming the show wasn’t worth it to him. MT failed. The MT crew in charge of negotiations failed. It is among the best of the shows and now there is less quality shows (across all the BS TV) to watch.

motor trend is going to do the same thing it did to it’s magazine. Was once one of the best car mags out there. Then once foreign cars hit their pages it went down the tube. Before to long you’ll be luckly to find anything with hot rods or American muscle. Even notice now a number of the good shows are doing foreign cars and they can’t seem to get enough of that loud mouth on wheeler Dealers. Even a number of others are from Australia. Yes, the production costs for FantomWorks may be higher, but your Return on Investment (ROI) is also higher. Keep FantomWorks and cancel some of the cheap, uninteresting, boring programs that only exist to fill gaps in programming. If you don’t take care of your viewers… Another Network will. Period!

Way to go Motor Turd, the car magazine that never met a car they didn’t like. Fantom Works was a great, REALISTIC show that actually showed the restoration process honestly. No idiots in flat brimmed hats playing out scripted antics, no product placements, no ridiculous 7 day “deadlines”. Just real mechanics doing real work. I guess that is not what teenage boys want to see. I got a higher tier of my TV service for the sole reason of being able to watch Velocity Channel. Like many others have said here, now I can drop that, and save $20/month.

Then your fatal mistake is taking Fanthom Works off. I am so tired of most of the shows that appear on your network. The only good shows right now are Iron Resurrection and Fanthom Works. If you could get Edd China back you would be accomplishing something. I know that would be a new experience for this network, but your viewers would appreciate it. Now I hear you’re cancelling Iron Resurrection too. Stupidest move EVER!!! Fantomworks and Iron Resurrection are the only 2 shows I look forward to on the new Motor Crud channel. I used to DVR and download Dan’s shows to my tablet and watch it when I traveled. With the 2 gone, I can cancel the channel from my cable subscription.
Shows like Fantomworks and Iron Resurrection have made me a female gearhead. I really appreciate the quality and workmanship of classic cars. Fantomworks is amazing because they let you know how long it really takes to complete a masterful restoration. I have come to enjoy the staff and their amazing skills that they bring to doing masterful work.
Joe Martin is out of the world amazingly talented in so many areas from design to metal work to hand-painted artwork on the cars or trucks. Shorty’s paint jobs on the classic vehicles are done with love and joy. They are showroom ready. I love the relationship with Joe and the entire staff. They may kid around, but the end result is jaw-dropping beautiful work.

I try not to be a armchair quarterback but cutting Fantomworks and Iron Resurrection and keeping Street Outlaws – Roadkill etc. I think your now the official Motor Buzz Kill Network. Now, with cancelling these 3 shows, and probably replacing them with 40 inch wheels stuffed in drop down frames with the backseats replaced with speakers shows, you are setting this channel up for failure. I used to watch Velocity as my go-to channel. Now with the 3 really good shows that were on being cancelled by a crappy magazine, I guess this network will be my no-go-to channel. Thanks for ruining a good thing! I wonder if the same person who made the magazine shitty is responsible for making the network shitty? I, along with all the others who posted am greatly disappointed that Dan and his crew are going away, as well as Iron Resurrection and Speed is the New Black. Maybe a real channel like Discovery will pick up these shows!

In the first they exploded a manual transmission in a hydraulic press ending the episode saying they needed to take it to a transmission shop. In the second they were attempting to fix a leak in an automatic transmission and it was clear they didn’t know what they were doing. Turned it off. They canceled a show with real craftsman working on real jobs and replaced it with a clueless young couple doing things for the first time. To bad. Would suggest network that has Counting Cars move those shows to their network. I do not know who makes the line up decisions for MTrend but they are uninformed and following a path that will lead to many cancellations of Motor Trend. Wow… a real Phantomworks fan club here. I stopped watching the show because I couldn’t stand the owners “it has to be expensive, state-of -the-art or its dangerous ” attitude. The show that turned me off was some guy brought an old camaro.. had drum brakes. I remember the show guy practically calling the car a death trap, he wouldn’t work on it unless the car owner gave in to the long list of modern and expensive upgrades. I hate people like that. Yes, modern is often times safer, but the older stuff “works” as well. He could offer suggestions with reasoning, but don’t make the car sound like it’s ready for the scrap pile just because it’s stock is. Heavy handed salesmanship. Roadkill is the best show because they have “fun” with cars Anybody can purchase. Making the most out of the least. Honestly Roadkill is the only reason I ever got the channel. If it gets cancelled, I’m gone. Don’t care for 100k car restorations/customs.

This network is really messing up. This is one of the best “car” shows on the air. Plus it has real people and great cars! Enjoyed the gambit of vehicles, from old partially wooden vehicles to sports cars. It’s a shame normal peoples opinions don’t matter. Sorry Dan, you and your guys deserve better. I hope another network picks this program up !

Dan Short was / is an vulgar mouthed, arrogant asswipe. He made a mountain out of a molehill on everything that needed repair. I did like the way he would screw the customs eyes out on charges & then make them like it. I’ll never forget the episode were he charged a customer $50,000.00 to add A/C in his old Caddy. Anyone that steps foot in Dan Short’s doors is gonna take it up the ass..

Now please keep the real talent like, Iron Resurrection, Bitchin’ rides (stupid name) the guys from Texas Metal are super talented, not my style vehicles, but super talented guys! Mark Worman is a super douche, but again talented crew and super super knowledgeable guy. Roadkill is ok, like that they bring back junkyard cars and drive them off, most so called “gear heads” could never do it! Wanna get rid of a show, hows about that whoooooooo idiot that wears his wife’s jeans!!! Oh and thanks for ridding us of that Speed is the new Black. Think that’s what it was called. not really into the trailer queen cars, they are nice to look at and the guys that build them are super talented, just my opinion. It is bad enough Engine Masters is gone, now this? Why don’t I just cut the cord, Velocity was one of the few reasons I am hanging on too it as is it a refuge from our cultural rot on the lame stream channels. Guy channels as I call them, fixing houses, cars, doing things in Alaska etc. I guess it was just too much toxic masculinity for front office dweebs….

Dan is very talented at what they do with helping the team build some beautiful cars and help lots of people have their dream car. This is what the people in your viewing audience love to see on T.V. Not sure who or why your team of intelligence decisions makers at Motor Trend come to this as being a great idea to cancel this great show. Dan and his team are like family to many of us and taking him out of our homes is not the right thing to do MT. And we thought your were so cool and everything about cars…..

I really appreciated how Dan and his crew worked hard to get things done correctly as they try (sometimes unsuccessfully) to stick to the client’s budget. I have restored four cars in the last 18 years taking my time and trying to do things the way the factory intended. I’ve learned so much from FantomWorks and I’ll miss seeing the challenges they face in restoring vintage works of art back to their original glory. If anyone cares about what the viewers would like to see, it should be a shop like Dan Shore’s where everyone works together as a team to do a quality restoration. Much more enjoyable than watching a show where everyone in the shop is at odds with one another (real or just for the sake of a producer’s idea). Please reconsider cancelling this program! Thank you

This is why FantomWorks is over. Dan wrote this Dec. 21st.

      Why DRS quit…

By the first few days of 2019, we will finish filming the television series FantomWorks. The shop will continue to build cars for years to come but the show called FantomWorks will conclude. Our weekly tours will continue as they have since long before the show began. A few weeks back, the network officially posted the cancellation of our television show. Because of that announcement, I decided it was time to explain why I quit and thank all involved.

I want to thank my crew of amazing technicians and the film crew that gave a group of mechanical artisans the chance to be in the spotlight. The crew of FantomWorks maintained the utmost professionalism building cars while dealing with cameras in their faces, sound equipment stuffed into nooks and crannies, radio wars (they were turned off 25 times a day), takes and retakes, working lunches, early mornings that turned into late nights, unwanted travel, and the general difficulties associated with being in front of the cameras 5 days a week, 51 weeks a year, 6.5 years non-stop. Right after the show began, employee turnover increased tenfold; stresses in the shop skyrocketed, and attacks on my company (bloodsucking leeches trying to suck “riches” that never even existed) came out of nowhere. In 2017 I announced to my crew my decision to leave the television show. To my relief, the crew responded very positively. As the cameras are now closing out the final segments of filming, the crew’s morale has skyrocketed and the love of building cars is effervescent again.

I am told that filming a television show on a “set” designed for filming and utilizing paid actors is a reasonably easy thing to do. However in the case of the show FantomWorks, filming was never easy by anyone’s standards. My thanks to those members of the network and film crew who truly cared about the shop. Some understood how difficult it was and helped in any way they could. We had eleven directors in six years, most of whom agreed this was the most difficult show to shoot they’d ever worked on (most one-hour cars shows are shot in a 2-30 day window while this show averages 548 days). Car restorations that averaged almost two years were a reality while we had to display “continuity” during the builds so it looked like they were seamless done in only days. Shop dust and oils affected film gear resulting in an unusual number of equipment issues that then resulted in countless “do overs.” We never filmed less than five days a week, many weeks six. Film crews worked 7AM till 6 or 7PM most days alongside our crews. Often times, filming went well into the night. All this while trying to keep 65 to 98 cars in build at a time. It was never easy. To add insult to injury, many customers were upset as they were never reimbursed for travel or other expenses. The film schedule was so demanding that during the final weeks of my father’s life, I was not able to attend to him. The show took over my life and to make matters worse, my wife and I now face almost a million dollars of debt we incurred keeping the production going.

I have only one regret related to leaving the show. That regret is that we have to say goodbye to our many fans. I have been honored to meet thousands of viewers of the show during the tours at the shop, in local car shows, and national events like SEMA. I’ve travelled the globe and been truly delighted and humbled by meeting so many people who have openly expressed their love of our the shop and the show.

Just a few months ago, a very emotional fan of the show shared a wonderful story. He and his father would watch the show FantomWorks together during the months before his aged father passed. His father suffered from severe dementia had forgotten almost everything; his surroundings and family. It was only during the hour that they watched this show together that his father’s mind became alert. He’d been a car builder in his younger years. While the two watched the show together, his father could “remember” and for that hour, they’d connect… they’d talk. When he told me about what the show had done for his relationship, I rationalized that all the financial hardship we’d been through to make the show and even dealing with the gutless faceless internet trolls for six and a half years were somewhat justified.

So when one of the senior executives from the network and I had a long talk. He suggested that if it doesn’t make any sense to keep going, it’s time to call it done. It was time…

      God Bless.

Whatever Dan’s reasons are for not wanting to renew the series with MT we may never know. Us baby boomers who grew up in the muscle car era and are now reaching retirement age, have time, ambition, and a little pocket money to have an iconic muscle machine to drive through the remainder of our years on this good earth. We don’t drive foreign POS cars, we dont drive daily in trucks that can crush cars or slam so close to the ground that a ant’s pecker can’t even squeeze under. I drive a Ford Ranchero. It has a nice motor and can scoot. So the peeps of my generation, which happens to be the largest living generation at this time, represent a vast majority of the folks who would rather see a show were real cars are worked on and that we can relate to. So the dumb fucks at MT management need to understand who their real viewship is, what they drive and what they like to watch. Just about every commentator on this thread has denounced MT, with the exception of a few assholes. So either make Dan happy enough again to renew the show with MT or find some alternative automotive shows that replicate the integrity of Fantomworks. MT network is in a spiral downward because of it’s inability to utilize marketing data to support it’s viewing selections. Like someone else said, some dumbass corporate junky with both hands in his pants is quickly losing his game if pocket pool….

Well, I have to put in my 2cents. Fantomworks was truly the best show on TV no matter what channel. Most of the other shows are hard to watch because all they do is “we’ll slam it put 24s on the front and 26s on the back” then put tires that look like orings! In my opinion completely destroying the look of the car. This may have its place, sometimes, but they do it on every car & truck! Fantomworks does all type of builds and I can watch the repeats over&over.
If this was MotorTrend s decision it was a BAD one! However, if Mr Short doesn’t want to do it anymore, it saddens me but I understand his decision, no sense continuing when your heart is not in it. I will truly miss Fantomworks, I hope reruns will be someplace.

One of the best episodes for me was ‘Bo’s Corvette’. As soon as he came on the screen I said to myself, ‘Hey, I know him’. I lived across the street from him and his mother and sister while I was stationed at Offutt AFB. He was in zoomie school then. I knew the car as well. A good show, too bad Dan has his challenges. What’s wrong with classic cars being done correctly and at the height they rolled off the assembly line at along with actual door handles!!

Bitchin’ seems to get worse and worse as the years go by, Please for God’s sake stop all the Soap Opera Faux Drama and just build cars. Done right there is enough to hold the audience interest. It just really erks me when a shop suddenly discovers a “Unusual” issue on something as common as say installing an LS into a Tri5 or a Chevy Muscle car..Please, really? This has been done like a thousand times, it just makes the shop look stupid!

Who’s brainstorm of an idea was it to cancel “ Fantomworks”? That was one of the best car oriented shows you had on the Velocity Channel; Dan Short and his crew of technicians are one the best car restorers in the business. It was an original show in itself, not alike all the cookie cutter shows that are on now, he has an ‘old school’ approach to his methods not alike the other shows who go off on the same exact format and are somewhat predictable by the end of the show. Damn, you got something good going, don’t screw with it! Sure his show ran 9 seasons, but his projects are unique as for the people who incited the visions, and he made their dreams a reality with outstanding results every single time. Every project was different and kept your interest throughout the whole show without losing your focus in it. The show is very educational and Dan always had some funny one liners to add to different situations which made it amusing as well. To sum it up, it seems like all the tired shows hang around and the good ones get bounced; as far as I’m concerned, he could of ran several more seasons with the same quality and style his shows have earned through the seasons. Sincerely, Mark C. Parise

Fantom Works was one of the few shows I watch on what used to be Velocity network and is now Motor Trend. Just like most everything on TV, Motor Trend has chosen to abandon the Boomer Generation and market only to the punk kid crowd. MT already has far too many shows that destroy classic cars by turning them into gaudy ground draggers with 22 inch wheels. Fantom Works is the only car program to feature a full service restoration shop, manned by true craftsmen who could build a variety of cars, ranging from stock restorations to full-blown customs. Motor Trend can go to hell as far as I am concerned. Dish channel 246 no longer exists after the last Fantom Works episode.

While I could do without some of the swearing on the Fantom Works, it did address great restorations and all of the staff provided intelligent restoration commentary. Too many of these shows are moving toward less than mature topics. We need more shows like Fantom Works and Chasing Classic Cars. I look for intelligent and educational car programs not those where fights break out among the employees (too much fake drama) or cars are destroyed or absurd modifications are made in the name of entertainment. I understand there is a vast audience but a balance is needed. Sure hope they keep the World Endurance Championship on MT.

The sad fact is that the lowest common denominator viewer – the dumfuk walmart Jerry Springer white trash with sub-100 IQs – could care less about how to build/rebuild cars, houses, or anything else. What they want to watch is the totally phony crap with other scraggly beard tattoo-covered redneck ‘bro country dumfuks running around and high-fiving each other when something falls off their lift, or they dump a chassis off a trailer, or a big log hits someone in the head, or someone gets into a fight, or rocks clog up the “wash plant” for the 1000th time, or whatever other slapstick nonsense the producers of reality detritus conjure up. The typical viewer doesn’t know jack shit about anything, probably couldn’t find the USA on a globe if their lives depended on it, and have no interest in actually learning how things work or how to create things. What they want to watch – endlessly – is the modern version of “The Three Stooges.” Stupid manufactured slapstick situations acted out by a cast of modern day clowns. The more outrageous, the better. And.., since that’s what Joe Six-Pack wants to watch, that is what advertisers are willing to support. It’s really no more complicated than that. I’d rather watch some guy cut a board in his garage on YouTube – but even those “makers” are learning the hard lesson – stupidity, not quality, is what sells

I do not watch the “reality” shows that focus on the drama between mechanics and participants and not on the cars. True car guys could care less about the drama and want to see the cars. Those shows that focus on a diversity of cars are too few and far between. Real car guys do not want to see some gutted monstrosity with 40″ wheels, half of which are buried in the fenders. I will miss Dan and his show. I live about an hour from Norfolk. The next time I am there I think I will stop in and tell Dan just that. Shame on you Motor Trend. His work supposedly was lacking quality because of it so he decided after talking with executives that it was time to end the show…

The people who made the decision to cancel this show don’t have a clue to what is being watched on their network . Phantom works is one of the best 3 car restoration / make over car shows on . They are honest, caring and very talented . Do the right thing and get this show back on the air. If you want to kill a show do it to Roadkill that’s a worthless waste of time.

contributors, Barrett Jackson and the advertisers do not understand that the people that actually have money for their products are not the people they want at their events. And on the car note, I have an 80 and 84 Corvette, 79 MG Midget, 78 Trans Am, a converted S-10 p/u, an 11 Charger R/T and a 12 Mustang, we love cars in this house, don’t screw with the good shows.

Fantomworks is one of the best car shows on TV, it’s unbelievable it would be cancelled. Meanwhile they air a really bad show like Live, Love, Wrench. It’s not just bad but dangerous! The poor quality work and incorrect information I’ve seen on that show could get someone killed! They leave out and never show the fixes and redos of the stuff they screw up, improperly set or assemble. For example: Emily tightening down front wheel bearings as tight as she could make it, they never explained it’s important not to over tighten. Aaron was talking about using two secondary brake shoes to increase braking power on the rear brakes! It’s like they don’t even understand how the primary and secondary shoe’s work together to create braking force. This show better get a technical guy to make sure these two aren’t going to encourage a viewer to incorrectly repair his car resulting in someone’s injury or worse. If not, a lawsuit will be coming their way.

He sounds like a third grader who just learned the swear words and is determined to use every one of them. The facial contortions were beyond belief as well. Made watching the show difficult. The man must be a horror to work for.

Take a lesson from Foose, Short…. just get the work done, children’s swear words aren’t needed. You’re not the show, the cars are.

    Why DRS Quit…
    Dec 21, 2018 | FantomBlog | 294 comments
It was time…
    God Bless.

I really hate all the reality shows where its all about the personalities and not the cars. Fantomworks was excellent in this respect. They went into pretty good detail on restoring the cars from all aspects. Other shows focus on one or two aspects of the cars and then show the car with its engine magically dropped into place.

FantomWorks has come a long way and is a perfect fit for their primary demographics. With Velocity, I rarely changed the channel [When I had control of the remote] but now since Motor Trend has taken over, they continue to implement terrible strategies and I watch it less and less every week. I will now watch it even less often! Listen to your viewers MotorTrend… we are not enjoying your signature moves!

Maybe Motortrend is using the bottom up approach to selecting their prime time listings by choosing the worst shows from Velocity to keep and get rid of the best in hopes of boosting their ratings??? Good luck with that!!!!

Fantomworks and DCS are two totally different kind of shows. One is a flip show and the other is a restoration show. If you’re looking for a classic car to drive and have fun in, DCS is your show. The Cyclone episode that was just on cost the owner well over a $100,000 for a car that will NEVER be worth it. Frankly, with that kind of money into it, I’d be afraid to drive it on the road.

I did like watching the cars being restored on FW, I just can’t stand Short. “Now, why does MY trim not fit?” He doesn’t do spit except order the real craftsmen around who actually make him the money. Get rid of DRS and his stupid childlike swearing and and ego and it would be a great show.

The price tag for the repairs has to do with the owner wanting something that was not originally installed in his vehicle and the only way to get that now is to find a downer car hence the high cost.

Watching the Wednesday January 30th Fantomworks end of series day long special now. I’m going to miss this show! It’s about 1 hour up the road from me and it was really neat knowing it was so close! Interesting to read that Dan is the one who wanted to end it but I guess I can understand…it probably was quite an interference to a daily work schedule. So Dan…good luck, keep the cars coming and your show will be missed!! And I’ve read that Iron Resurrection is going away too??? Well damn! That sucks too! Anybody know if this is a fact???? I really liked Joe Martin and his crew too!! Some have commented on Chasing Classic Cars…I feel they need to change the name to Chasing Classic Foreign Cars…they are way to fixated on Ferraris, Porsches, Astons and such. Wayne just doesn’t seem interested in American made unless it’s a 1903 Cadillac or such…and comments on Mark from Graveyard Cars, if he just didn’t try so hard to be funny or clever and that grin…..creepy! I guess its wait and see time to find out what the future brings!

Good riddance. Dan short appeared to be a real jerk on television and too much drama for the show. Besides that. Sounds like he’s a con artist. Accused
of ovoverchargi people and running a fake charity for veterans. I looked it up and he’s been sued at least a couple of times. I’m not saying he is a crook. But one case I read about. He looked pretty shady. And his wounded wheels charity is under intense scrutiny. Not much worse in my opinion than scamming people with a veterans charity.

Really? Of all the shows Motor Trend TV cancels, Fantomworks is the on they picked? Yes, Dan’s kind of a prick and a drama queen, but I like the fact he does STOCK cars and restomods (and actually sometimes tells us how much he charges). Dallas Cars Sharks, Girl’s Garage, Junkyard Empire, Chasing Classic Cars (even Wheeler Dealers), and many more are all worse shows. Bad decision.

What else would you expect from wannabe car experts that named the 4 door Chevrolet Caprice “Car of the Year” back in the early 1990’s. I am sure Fantomworks will be replaced with a show about building 8 foot tall pickups for rock stars or sports figures with no taste. No doubt they will be covered inside and out with lights, have ugly black wheels and guaranteed to go bad air suspension. This is unquestionably the dumbest decision ever made !!! These people need to consider what the audience wants and forget about their goofy dream vehicles.

Unlike the others with their hip shirts and hair gel, Dan sweats through his t-shirts and is hands-on, working directly with his guys (unlike the other Hollywood-like prima donnas; Foose, Wheeler Dealers, Kindig, etc). He cares more about the cars than his image. He’s interesting, knowledgeable, and he and his guys actively work on solutions. It is shows like this coupled with the televised auctions that have yanked our old car hobby from us and put us into the dreamer status. Even those of us that who work hard and are a little better off financially than many others who can only dream but nowhere as financially at the levels of those with who appear on these shows with wide open checkbooks and are adding old cars to their investment portfolios along with their 401ks.

There are so many other shows where the paid help would disrespect their employer and complain about their job or what they were assigned to do.
As best as I can recall no one on the show was filmed taking a nap, dancing and acting the fool. You see that in many of the other shows on your channel.

Fantomworks is one of the best shows on your line-up!!!!

IF anything should be cancelled, “What’s My Car Worth” should go.
Post production work, including sound ‘up’ and ‘down’ and never consistent.

    Want to cancel another show????
Graveyard Cars. Or, just get rid of that MORON (Mark Worman) that thinks he can fight and/or dance.

Don’t cancel the good shows. Cancel the STOOPID shows.

Thanks and we really enjoy chasing classic cars and wheeler dealers as well.

The car’s stance is one: the one the designer’s gave the car at design time. The rest is puke. Wish Car and Driver were owner’s. Never liked Motor Trend, useless.

“Because of that announcement, I decided it was time to explain why I quit and thank all involved.
I love FantomWorks because it shows talent. No arguing and yelling between people, but disagreements which everyone has. Also discussing cost shows the viewers just what it takes to get that level of quality and honesty. There is a bit of foul language that seems to come from one person, Dan, but I believe he does it just because he can. The show being cancelled caught me by surprise, but in hindsight I can see the reason. These builds take so long it would be impractical to try continuing the show and showing the finished result in the time frame TV needs. They could take on faster projects which would only make them fit into the class of those other shows that are simply remove and replace parts. No offense, but I will fall back on Bitchin’ Rides now. Farewell FantomWorks. If I am ever in the area I WILL swing by for a tour.

Dan Short explains his reason for leaving Motortrend….

“By the first few days of 2019, we will finish filming the television series FantomWorks.
It was time…
    God Bless.

Sad to say, someone at Motor Trend is not listening to the audiance, and if the tend continues, Motor Trend will vanish the way of other programing of the past, like Paul Allen’s TECH TV. More bad decisions by television exectutives that just dont get it. When you have a winner, just as season after season of Fantonworks has proven, just let the magic run its course. More of the same cookie cutter crap is not going to make great television, but a proven clasic will.

I just don’t understand their cancellation. One of the best garage show Fantomworks is a very up class show.
Where Dan Short always believed in making the vehicle road safe first, all the systems gone through before anything was tore down, and replace/rebuilt and Dan always made everything wright. Nothing went out of that shop, unless it was a 100%. Interest may have been reclining on cheaper shows since M/T took over but Fantomworks was no one of them.

Also has to throw up his hands and cuss a few times before he suddenly becomes the most knowledgable guy ever and can fix it. Just my opinion. I like graveyard cars, they do great work and don’t discuss who pays for anything.

I think motor-trend network should be renamed “The Barret Jackson Network”. I do not think hours and hours of the 1 per-centers buying overpriced automobiles is entertainment. At least Rock Auto you can avoid by not visiting there website……

The best show of your line-up & you yank it!! What are you thinking??! And the only automotive show where the body ink and extra hair wasn’t competing with the real content.

This show is as phony as a 2 dollar bill.Pay attention and watch VERY closely.since when do you do 100 mph road tests and 321 brake checks in cars with no roofs no doors etc. and then stop in the middle of the street with doors open to check your brake skid marks?all the so called finished and delivered vehicles are either in the line up inside the shop or outside in the for sale line up.the customers are either friends or paid to be a fake owner.otherwise why are all the finished vehicles back in Dans possesion after they are supposedly delivered.when a car is on hoist and the so called gu-rus are inspecting the pay real close attention to what is going on around them as well as the vehicle itself.they are far from restored or even finished the way they are portraid.nuf said.

These people that put FantomWorks down are funny (and sad) they know nothing of working on cars, or should I say restoring cars. FW was one of the best on TV and I agree with the people on here that said they are canceling that station, now that the great shows are gone, there is no sense in watching that BS channel any longer, I agree 100% that station sucks now, it was great before MT took them over, and they ruined a great thing. True gearheads can watch those 2 shows and learn something; I worked on cars for 25 years before getting hurt and losing that as a trade. I am another one that agrees Motor Trend is making a big mistake, and watch in a few years they’ll be selling that channel to anyone that wants it.

We see Fantomworks in the UK. Very poor decision to cancel an outstanding car programme showing quality professional restorers at work. A class programme featuring the actual quality work undertaken and how difficult issues were solved by class restorers, absolutely, not the usual drek which will no doubt replace it. The programme showed the real quality work done and you didn’t have to listen interminably to some ‘personality’ spouting uninformed hackneyed patter. This was an outstanding programme showing the exceptional work expertly completed by the exceptional crew at Fantomworks, in other words all the interesting stuff without the inane chat. Motor Trend Network …. misleading name …… this decision shows …… er ……. you are not.

What a stupid decision by somebody at MT. I may just stop watching this Network. I can think of at least 10 shows like this one to go before FW.

I also agree with the rest of the comments. This was just straight up TV.
No macho, self aggrandizing, giant tires and rims stuff. Those shows are OK, but should not have been cancelled.
Probably, this Email will land on deaf ears, but I tried.
    Thanks.
